A spicy tomato-based pasta dish

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb penne pasta
  • 1 can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup olive oil Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Add garlic and red pepper flakes, and cook for an additional minute.
  • Add the can of crushed tomatoes to the skillet, and bring to a simmer.
  • Reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Drain the pasta and add it to the skillet with the sauce.
  • Toss to coat.
  • Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
